Alicia Muñoz Reyes is a Cuban writer and director based in Amsterdam, fluent in Spanish, English, and Dutch. Her work focuses on character-driven narratives and the exploration of human emotions with an emphasis on authenticity. Her short film Alma delves into the power of forgiveness.
She is also self-publishing her first novel, La Ceiba del Deseo, and shares her knowledge through teaching young people about storytelling and filmmaking.

Isuru Weerasinghe is a practice-led researcher, choreographer, and contemporary–traditional dancer with over fifteen years of professional experience in performance, choreography, and dance education. His work explores embodiment, character-based movement, Mudra Natya, Kandyan dance, and narrative choreography. He is the founder and director of Salamba Performing Arts Centre (SPAC) and serves as the choreographer of this research work. Currently, his M.Phil. research investigates embodied dramaturgy, character creation, and ethnochoreology within Sri Lankan contemporary dance. (Youtube link)
Title: PÃTHRA – The Journey of the Character Dancer
PÃTHRA – The Journey of the Character Dancer is a contemporary intercultural dance production developed through practice-led research, exploring the process through which a dancer transforms into an embodied character within performance. Rooted in Sri Lankan traditional movement systems—particularly Kandyan dance and Mudra Natya—the production investigates the relationship between body, character, memory, emotion, and narrative through choreographic exploration.
The word Pãthra signifies a “character,” “vessel,” or “bearer,” symbolising the dancer as a carrier of emotion, story, cultural memory, and human experience. The production examines how a performer moves beyond technical execution to inhabit psychological depth, emotional intention, and narrative presence through embodiment and movement research.
Created through a collaborative exchange between Salamba Performing Arts Centre (SPAC), Sri Lanka, and Dance in Art (DiA), The Netherlands, the work brings together Sri Lankan and Dutch dancers within an intercultural choreographic research environment. Through studio-based experimentation, improvisation, somatic practice, dramaturgical inquiry, and ritual-inspired movement, the dancers collectively explore transformation, identity, conflict, memory, and the inner landscape of the performer.
PÃTHRA reimagines Sri Lankan embodied traditions within a contemporary performance context, using gesture, breath, rhythm, gaze, spatial tension, and movement intention as central dramaturgical tools. The production does not merely present characters as theatrical representations, but rather investigates how character emerges organically through the lived and embodied experience of the dancer.
As both a performance work and a research outcome, PÃTHRA contributes to contemporary discussions on embodiment, intercultural choreography, ethnochoreology, and the evolving language of Mudra Natya. The production positions the dancer not only as a performer, but also as a storyteller, researcher, and embodied archive, creating a bridge between traditional knowledge systems and contemporary artistic expression.
